DANCe Improvisation and performance intensive
with Chris Aiken + Angie Hauser
DIPI is an annual 6-day residential workshop featuring the research and teaching of Chris Aiken and Angie Hauser. Presented in August at Earthdance the intensive focuses on dance improvisation, performance, and related work. Time is spent tuning and stretching our physical and perceptual capacities. Dancing, watching, talking, performing, and composing will be a part of our daily practice and research. The material of this intensive is informed by Chris and Angie’s experience with a wide range of forms. There are recognizable influences from contemporary dance training, Contact Improvisation, fascia research, Alexander Technique, ecological psychology, and visual and architectural design. The intensive culminates in a public performance.
Arrive Sunday Afternoon August 9 - Depart Saturday Afternoon August 15, 2020
Public Performance Friday August 14 in Northampton, MA
DiPi has been an amazing catalyst into researching improvisation as a performance tool. Angie and Chris are both accomplished, intelligent, kind, and caring individuals; who throughout the week challenged our notions of improvisation. They allowed for discourse and space to deepen into our bodies, question our habits, change perspective, and launch us into the wonderful unknown. This workshop is a safe and welcoming space for all bodies. We cannot recommend this workshop enough, and encourage everyone interested to come and invest in a magical week at Earthdance with Chris and Angie.— Hollis A. Bartlett + Nattie Trogdon Choreographers/Dancers and DIPI participant
“Working with Chris and Angie in this setting has fed me for months after (and probably years). They facilitated a workshop environment of exquisite articulation and easeful collaborative exploration. They crafted the days together in a way that supported depth of work with the quality of a much longer-term collaborative team.”
— Shaina Cantino Dancer/Choreographer and DIPI participant
“Doing a workshop with Chris and Angie is a wonder. A wonder of opening to each day’s gifts, expertly guided by two effortlessly intelligent movers. A wonder of internal work that continues from the first day until the final circle. A wonder of confusion and clarity, of zany fun and sudden solemness, of breathless activity and the peace of being still with others. It’s a wonder of environment, of meeting new bodies and people who become new friends, in a natural setting that is one of the treats of being at Earthdance. Angie and Chris are wonders: seamlessly pairing with each other, each offering distinct viewpoints and pathways in, exploring along with their “students.” They’re one of my favorite improvisational duos!”
